Earlier this month, Notts teenager, Alex Akehurst, arrived in Abu Dhabi to take part in the 2024 IMMAF Youth World Championships.
Held 5 – 11 August, the championships featured 12 to 17-year-old competitors from all over the world and Alex was proudly representing England.
Alex, who turned 16 on 7th August 2024 whilst out in Abu Dhabi, is a home-grown talent from Nottingham who has been doing martial arts since the age of 10 and is already a British Champion in Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
It was this Nottingham link that made our founder Krisja Low want to get behind him and sponsor him for the championships.
K Low Consulting sponsored Alex to the tune of £1,000 which helped fund the cost of fight equipment, travel and accommodation for Alex and his father Dan, who accompanied him out there.
Whilst out in Abu Dhabi, Alex participated in two fights – one with a Ukrainian competitor who is ranked second in the world – and a second fight that ended with Alex going out as a result of a split decision.
Whilst Alex didn’t make it through to the knock-out stages of these particular championships, to be competing on the world stage, at this level, is a massive achievement. Prior to going to Abu Dhabi, Alex competed against ‘the best youths in England’ and was the only competitor from the East Midlands to be selected to represent the country in 2024 IMMAF Youth World Championships.
Alex will continue to compete in national and international competitions in MMA and Brazilian Ju Jitsu and the team at K Low Consulting are all behind him!
Well done Alex, we are so proud of you!
